Norwich’s Rifanburg and Slater lead Tornado wrestlers in senior night win

NORWICH – Norwich celebrated their two seniors before Wednesday’s night match against Chenango Forks.
Starting at 170 pounds, Norwich’s first senior Ty Rifanburg took to the mat against Forks’ Jeremiah Allen. A few shots were taking by both wrestlers, but neither landed anything in the first minute on the mat. Allen landed a shot with :30 seconds left, but Rifanburg was able to avoid the needed position for Allen to receive the points.
In the second period, Ty finished a two second near pin for the first points of the match. THe rest of the period was pretty a stalled match.
In the third, Rifanburg’s started on the bottom but was able to get a reversal on Allen for another two points, giving home a 4-0 decision in his senior night match. 
At the 182 weight class, Norwich’s other senior wrestler Brennan Slater took on the Blue Devils Braxton Stout-Moran. Both wrestlers tried to gain good head position before taking a shot on their opponent. 
with :30 remaining in the first period, Slater landed the first shot but both wrestlers landed out of bounds, resulting in no points for either. 
Slater scored the first points of the match by escaping the grasp of Stout-Moran then immediately landing a take down. He followed it with a 3-count near fall before the end of the second period. 
in the third, slater added another take down as well as another five-count near fall before getting the pin at 5:28.
Keegan wright immediately started of his match with a takedown and getting his opponent in a pinning position. At :36 Wright finished his the pin, scoring six for Norwich to extend their shutout to 15-0.
Tyler Rice wrestled his long time practice partner, Lucas Scott of the Blue Devils for the second time in five days. With the two of them know each other’s moves, this was clearing going to be the match of the night. 
The match went into a 0-0 stalemate in the first. At the beginning of the second, Rice started bottom and quickly escaped, giving him a 1-0 lead. 
Both wrestlers needing to take an offensive approach, Scott took a shoot but landed Rice out of bounds. Still waiting for one of them to take a shot, Scott took one and nearly landed the takedown. But making the the same move just a few moments later, Scott landed it to give him so and the lead. 
Rice looked for an escape with seven second left to tie it. He stood up but was unable to completely escaped the grasp. 
Forks received a forfeit at the 285 pound weight class, closing Norwich’s lead down to six.
At 96 pounds, Andrew Brown took on Tyler Ferrara, in a quick moving match. Immediately after the clock starting winding down, Brown scored on a takedown. Ferrara tried several times to land a reversal or escape Brown but Brown maintained control through the rest of the first. 
In the second, Ferrara took a shot but Brown found a way to get out of bounds before Ferrara finished for the points. 
Taking a 4-0 lead into the final period, Brown chose bottom, looking to get an escape for a point. He got out of it into a neutral position, scoring the point. He added another two on a take down, giving him the win on a 7-0 decision.
Dante Geislinger wrestled in the 106 pound match against Forks’ Zander Arnold. Again, another match of speedy wrestlers, Geislinger struck first putting two on the board. Ending the first period with a 7-0 lead. 
Geislinger chose bottoms after Arnold deferred to start the second. Instead of tying to escape, Geislinger reversed his position to the top, scoring another two points. He added to his points total with a five-count near fall. 
heading into the final period, his lead was 14-0 and only needed a point to get a technical fall. He landed a move to get him the point need but because he was in a pinning position, the match continued. Arnold worked himself out of bounds, ending the match for a another win for Norwich.
At 113, Nick Glanville received a forfeit to extend the purple’s lead. 
His brother Gabe Glanville took on Logan Gumble for the Blue Devils. Gumble got the an early reversal to score the first points of the match. 
Continuing into the second, Glanville started on top but was quickly reversed again by Gumble. 
Later in period, Gumble won the bout with a tech fall. 
Squires hit the home mat for the first time this season. Forks had Dylan Eggleston against him.
Squires pinned Egglston at 2:53 as he looked in mid-season form despite his absence from an injury earlier in the season.
Rodriguez took his first pin of the season at 4:20 over Daniel Flynn to record another win for the Purple at home.
Other wins for the Tornado were by Austin Hatton in an exciting 4-2 decision match, Dakota Hall’s controlled 9-3 decision and Angel Francis’ 3:49 pin to end the meet.
Norwich is wrestling over the weekend in a dual tournament.
