Turnovers sting Norwich in loss at Oneonta
ONEONTA – Oneonta took a commanding 22-10 lead after the first quarter of play and didn’t show any signs of letting up. Forcing Norwich to many turnovers while disrupting their shots, the Yellowjackets took full advantage in their win over the Purple Thursday night.
In the 10 point effort of the first eight minutes, Carson Maynard contributed eight while Michael Carson added the other two.
In the second, the Tornado outscored Oneonta 10-8 with Carson going 4-for-4 from the foul-line while chipping in another two to lead with six. He ended his night with a prefect 8-for-8 performance at free-throw line to give him a total of 12 for the contest.
But the game was all Yellowjackets, from start to finish as their scoring trio of Tanner Beang, Teddy McGraw and Graham Wooden poured in the points, scoring 17, 16 and 21 in their win over the long time rival.
While he didn’t end up in the scoring column, Norwich received good minutes on the floor from Drew Walsh as he played his usually tough and physical defense. The Purple also received strong play from Jon Clarke, who came in of the bench to score four points in the fourth.
Maynard finished with a game-high 18 for Norwich as he had balance scoring throughout the 32 minutes played.
The Tornado will look to rebound from the loss as they are in action again on Saturday when they host Johnson City at 3 p.m.
