Lady Trojans’ seven threes pave way in win over Harpursville
GREENE – The Lady Trojans of Greene knocked down seven from beyond the arc in Friday’s 60-18 win over the visiting Harpursville Hornets.
Greene jumped out to a 15 point after the first quarter with the first two baskets coming from the hands of Emma Smith. But the Trojans’ snipers began to dial in from long distance as Alyssa Sands hit the first of three straight threes by Greene McKenna Sergi then hit the next two back-to-back as they scored 17 in the first.
Greene showed no signs of slowing down as they scored 39 points over the course of the next 16 minutes of play. In the two middle quarters, the Trojans scored 17 and 22 on balanced scoring throughout the team. Smith led in the second with seven points tallied while it was Sergi again leading the charge in the third.
All of Greene’s scoring occurred while limiting their opponent to no more than eight points in any of the quarters and holding them to a game total of 18 points.
Smith finished with a game high 17 points. Teammates Sands and Sergi each chipped in with 15 and 14 points in the Greene win.
The Lady Trojans don’t play again on Friday when they travel to Afton with their boys team for a quad-header. The basketball action is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. when the girls JV team plays. The varsity will start following the boys JV game.

OXFORD – Depsite outrebounding their opponent, the Lady Blackhawks had a rough night shooting from the floor on Friday against a tough Delhi Bulldogs team, who is number three in the most recent New York State rankings.
Oxford shot 17 percent from the floor and was held scoreless in the first quarter in a very physical contest between the two teams.
The Blackhawks’ Caitlyn Quigley led with six points.
Oxford hosts Otselic Valley on Tuesday for an inter-county, non-league matchup.

DEPOSIT – Playing well during spurts of the game, Unadilla Valley had a tough second quarter against Deposit/Hancock, leading the Storm having to climb back uphill in the second half.
Down by 11 after the break, UV knew they needed to shut down the Eagles leading scorer Laycee Drake. Drake recorded 18 points before the intermission at the home team held the 33-22 advantage.
The Lady Storm did what they needed, holding Drake to just two points for the last two quarters of play as they slowly chipped away at the deficit.
Getting the lead to down to as many as six points, UV saw their comeback chances within reach.
But a low scoring fourth and other Deposit/Hancock players stepping up in the scoring absence of Drake prevailed as the Storm lost to No. 4 team in Class D of the New York State rankings, 55-44 Thursday night.
The Storm had a strong, balanced offensive attack from six players despite the loss. UV was led by Shelby Meade, who finished with a team-high 14 points. Julia Oglesby scored 11 while teammates Brooke Browne chipped in with seven while Kaleigh George and Meegan White added six apiece.
The Storm face another test in their tough schedule when they host No. 3 Delhi Tuesday in a boys-girls quad-header. UV girls will kick off the Varsity action at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.
