Central Valley 51, Sherburne-Earlville 42
SHERBURNE – The hot shooting hands of the Lady Marauders cooled off Monday night as they shot 23 percent from the field in a 51-42 loss to Central Valley
In the game prior to Monday’s, Sherburne-Earlville avenged their early season loss Frankfort-Schuyler with a nine three-point field goal performance as a team. However, the group only hit four of their 24 taking from beyond the arc.
Central Valley carried a 13 point margin into the intermission and grew their lead by three after the third stanza.
But the Marauders fought back in the fourth. At point in the final quarter, Sherburne-Earlville found themselves within four and had three chances to cut the difference to two points. But on two of the layup attempts, S-E players missed.
Using late game strategy, the Lady Marauders began to foul down the stretch in hopes of stopping the clock and complete the comeback effort.
But the Thunder made the free-throws, hitting four of eight at the line to take home the nine point win on the road. Three of those made foul shots came from the contest high scorer, Savannah Sommer of Central Valley. Sommer finished with 23 on the night, her last three coming at in the closing minute of the game.
The Marauders were led by Tessa Cole’s 16 while teammate Kaitlyn Furner added 11 in the loss.
Sherburne-Earlville travels up the road on Saturday to Waterville for an afternoon game. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
