SHERBURNE – Tuesday night’s senior night match against the Morrisville-Eaton Warriors was an important league dual meet in the Center State Conference that Sherburne-Earlville captured with their senior leadership.
Before the meet was underway, the six Marauder seniors were honored for their years of hard work and dedication to the S-E wrestling program.
Hunter Zbydniewski was unable to wrestle in his senior night but was still present to watch the rest of his team grab the 45-33 win.
Seniors Jessie Lynch and Tanner Campbell won their weight class matches by forfeit along with underclassmen Keith Rood and Ethan Eldred to give Sherburne-Earlville 24 points towards their team total.
The Warriors also earned four match wins by forfeit. Of the 15 matches in the meet, eight were decided by a forfeit.
The 99 pound weight class did not have a match, leaving six weight classes to decide the winner of the league meet.
Jason Price’s match pin at 1:37 over Morrisville-Eaton’s Troy Brayman proved to be pivotal as it was one of the two matches Sherburne-Earlville needed in order to take the home match win.
The other was in the 145 pound weight class with a matchup of the Marauder senior Mike Doeberl and Collin Shelton of the Warriors. Both wrestlers took the match into the third period but it was Doeberl who came out at the winner with a fall at 5:09.
Vinny Albertina, another Sherburne-Earlville senior took to the match next at 160 pounds. Albertina’s match gave the Marauders another six points in the team total.
The last S-E senior of the night to was Bailey Walzer. At 170 pounds, Walzer faced the very good wrestler of Morrisville-Eaton, Luke Perry. With the score being 24-24 at the point in the match Walzer’s match was very important to the team’s chances of winning.
Lasting the full three periods, Walzer pulled a 4-0 decision win – one of the two decision wins of the match for both teams – to give them a slight advantage.
