OXFORD – Holding a slight lead for the entire second half until just under a minute to play they took a one point lead off 2 Trevor Hanson free throws. 49-48. Brad Beckwith finished the scoring with short baseline shot to give us the 50-49 lead with about 40 seconds remaining.
Losing their season’s top producer to a sprained ankle about two minutes into the game, the Oxford Blackhawks stepped up in a big way, sneaking out the one point win over the visiting Hornets of Harpursville Wednesday night.
Blackhawk Brad Beckwith had a career high night, filling the scoring shoes of his teammate Jason Davis.
“We [Oxford] played real well without Jason,” said Oxford’s head coach Tim Davis. “Brad did great job scoring all night.”
CJ Smith performed well on offense to finish with 12 points. Smith also pulled in 12 rebounds to record a double-double in the contest.
Oxford has a week to rest as the Blackhawks do not play again until they host Unadilla Valley on Thursday, February 1.

Maine-Endwell 80, Norwich 46
ENDWELL – On the road for their third straight game, Norwich faced a very big Maine-Endwell Spartans team. Struggling with a size difference and the physicality of the Spartans in the half court set, Norwich lost their third game in a row, 80-46.
Again, the Purple Tornado had many turnovers, which in return led to fast-breaks by Maine-Endwell.
“Playing against superior opponents calls for a very slim margin for error in order us to compete,” said Norwich’s assistant head coach Tom Collier. “Last night, we made to many mistakes to be able to compete at that level.”
The Spartans limited Norwich to just six points in the first quarter and a total of 15 points before the halftime intermission.
Norwich chipped away at the 32 point lead held by M-E at the break, scoring 22 points in the third.
But Maine-Endwell’s size and physicality was too much for the Tornado to handle as they rolled to the 34 point victory.
“We [Norwich] will continue working on improving our weaknesses at practice everyday,” said Collier.
Marcus Cashman led Norwich in the scoring column with nine of his 13 coming from behind the three-point arc.
Norwich plays Susquehanna Valley on the road Friday before having playing the last four out of five games at home.

DEPOSIT – Bainbridge-Guilford’s hot shooting hands took a 27-18 after one half of play and turned into a 36 point win over MAC conference foe, Deposit/Hancock Wednesday night.
To start the third quarter, three consecutive trips ended in a three-point field goal coming from Erica Selfridge as dialed in from long-distance to score the first nine points of the Bobcats’ 23 in the eight minute span. Bainbridge-Guilford ended that stanza by outscoring the Eagles 23-8.
The Bobcats also received threes from Macie Lazier and Jill Cannistra during the quarter.
Bainbridge-Guilford had balanced scoring throughout the team as four Lady Bobcats scored double figures in their win.
Putting on display, the Bobcats knocked down a team total of seven three-pointers, four coming from the fingertips of Erica Selfridge, who finished with 15 for the contest.
Abigail Selfridge scored a game-high 17 points with 13 coming in the first half. Macie Leizear and Megan Palmatier scored 11 points each.
All but one Bainbridge-Guilford player scored at least two points in the team win. Deposit/Hancock’s Laycee Drake ended with 15 to pace the Eagles.
