Senator Akshar releases 2018 Community Voice Survey
52ND SENATE DISTRICT – Senator Fred Akshar this week released his latest Community Voice Survey online and via mail to poll the community on various issues facing constituents across the 52nd Senate District.
“Throughout my short time as state senator, I've tried to be as open and accessible as possible,” said Senator Fred Akshar. “Since being elected, I've traveled across the 52nd Senate District holding 26 live town hall events in order to actively listen to as many folks as I could. Our Community Voice Surveys are another way for the people I represent to tell me how they feel about pressing issues in New York.”
Next week, over 100,000 households across the 52nd District will be receiving the survey in the mail, which can be returned via mail after completion. Any resident who hasn't received the survey can also complete it online at Akshar.NYSenate.Gov.
Survey questions cover a wide array of topics, from the Governor's proposed $1 billion in new taxes and fees, Scaffold Law reform to the legalization of recreational marijuana to banning the use of taxpayer money to settle sexual harassment claims against state officials and employees. Other subjects include the Governor's proposal to eliminate cash bail for minor crimes, how to allocate potential capital project funding, renewable energy and election reform.
“I'm proud of the work we've accomplished so far, but the only way to properly represent the people of our community is to continually seek input from across the 52nd District,” said Akshar.
In his first year in office, Akshar's Community Voice Survey generated over 5,000 digital and physical responses from local constituents. Last year, his Community Voice Survey generated over 9,600 responses. This year, Akshar hopes to see those numbers grow again.
“It's inspiring to see so many people actively involved in their government,” said Akshar. Surveys like this help craft my legislative agenda and help inform many of my decisions throughout the Legislative Session. We live in an extremely diverse state, and our Southern Tier values aren't always shared by other regions of New York, but these surveys help make sure the people of the Southern Tier are provided a loud voice for their opinions in Albany.”
