Strong third quarter by the Tornado not enough to overcome Elmira

ELMIRA – Norwich scored 21 in the third quarter and were able to cut the 17 point Elmira lead down to single digits early in the fourth. But the host team scored another 17 points in the fourth, taking the contest with a final of 63-45 on Saturday.
Norwich made only two field goals in the first half with their other 10 points coming at the free-throw line.
But the hungry Lady Purple Tornado weren’t about to go down easy. Coming out of the halftime break, Norwich looked like a completely different team, going on a scoring tear while holding the Express to mostly free-throws.
Norwich’s Triniti Myers knocked down two from beyond the three-point line counting for six of her 12 scored in the third, leading the strong scoring attack by the Purple.
In the first half, Myers had just two made foul shots.
Norwich’s tough defense played a part in the scoring drought of the Express in the third quarter, outscoring the home team 21-15.
But it was Elmira’s Kiara Fisher scoring eight in the final stanza to push Elmira further away from the Tornado, taking the win.
Fisher finished with game-high 18 points. Myers finished with a team-high 16 for the Purple.
Norwich travels to Windsor later today. They will then face yet another road test on Thursday when the Purple heads to Seton Catholic. Both games are scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
