NYSEG accidentally causes gas leak on Pleasant Street
NORWICH – City of Norwich residents may have caught a strong whiff of natural gas on Tuesday afternoon and evening, as NYSEG inadvertently struck a main gas line on Pleasant Street.
There was no danger to the public, and Department of Public Works Assistant Superintendent George Carnrike said NYSEG had repaired the leak around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.
At the city public safety/public works and finance/personnel joint committee meeting Tuesday night, Carnrike said NYSEG contacted him at 1:58 p.m. Tuesday to notify him of the gas leak that occurred at 31 Pleasant Street.
The leak occurred as NYSEG was putting a pole in on Pleasant Street.
