Storm’s first half sets up ninth conference win of season

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley controlled the tempo against the Greene Trojans in the first half to lead 40-23 at the break before the Storm took a 76-66 conference win at home.
Andrew Jackson’s eight and Wyatt Grey seven in the first eight minutes to pace the Storm to a 21-10 lead. Unadilla Valley pushed the lead to 17 at the break behind Levi Rifanburg’s six and Jackson’s seven.
Rifanburg scored another six in the third, giving him 12 of his 14 points over the two middle quarters. and Dante Dye scored 13 for the Storm.
The fourth quarter was all the Trojans as they put up 26 in their comeback effort. Bob Mills knocked down three from long-distance, scoring 10 in the quarter while Evan Walters added six of his team-high 19 in the quarter.
Unfortunately, their final push at the end was not enough to overcome the big lead from the first three quarters UV.
Jackson finished the night with a game-high 28 points, pulled down eight rebounds and dished out six assists to lead Unadilla Valley while Dante Dye added 13 and Grey scored nine for the night.
Mills tallied 13 on the night while Nate Erickson added 10, eight coming from the free-throw line. Erickson went 8-for-11 at the line for the contest.
Unadilla Valley next plays at home on Tuesday in the MAC semi-finals against Delhi. Game time is yet to be announced. Greene will participate in the MAC mini tournament but location, time and opponent are to be determined later today as most of the MAC league teams played last night.

OXFORD – Caden Clow’s two free throws with 11 seconds remaining led to the Unatego Spartans one point win at Oxford on Thursday night. The Blackhawks did have a drive with a chance to win in the final 10 seconds but the attempt was unsuccessful.
Oxford trailed at the end of the third by just one basket after the Spartans Dawson Wisley scored in the final seconds of the quarter. Before that, the two teams were tied at 29 with 20 seconds remaining in the stanza.
“Game was back and forth all night,” said Oxford’s head coach Tim Davis. “Not having practice in a week because of the weather does hurt.”
The Blackhawks’ Jason Davis scored eight in the first half to aid in the 23-19 lead held by Oxford at the break.
Unatego was led by Dawson Wisley’s 14 points, including three behind the three point arc. Dean Reed finished with 10 points.
Chris Martin went 6-for-8 from the free-throw line to lead Oxford with 11 points, a season high for the senior Blackhawk. Teammates Davis and Xavier Cruz added 10 and eight.
Before the game, Oxford honored their two seniors, Martin and Hutch MacDonald. MacDonald has been unable to play since an injury sustained back in December.
Oxford is the eight seed in the MAC conference and will play in a MAC crossover game. Team, location and time will be announced later today. The Blackhawks have qualified for sectional play and will be waiting for that game to be announced sometime next week.

BAINBRIDGE – The Sidney Warriors scored 27 of their 67 points from long-distance, hitting nine three-points as a team. Malik Howard hit four on his own, accounting for 16 of his game-high 20 in the win over the host Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats Thursday night.
B-G outscored the Warriors 14-9 in the third quarter but were trailing by 13 at the halftime break.
Sidney limited the Bobcats to just four points in the second quarter, proving to the be the difference in the game. Bainbridge-Guilford kept the game within reach after the first quarter behind Trevor Halaquist’s eight points.
Howard paced the Warriors in the second with seven of the team’s 20.
Ethan Finch added 17 for Sidney while teammates Mike Gravelin, Steven Smith and Liam Matthews all scored 10 in the win.
Halaquist led the Bobcats with 12 while Shawn Lindsey and Tom Palmatier each added 11 and 10 in the loss.

OTEGO – After a tied game going into the fourth quarter, 34-34, Unatego head coach Bob Zeh made the decision to play man-to-man defense. His change made all the difference to take down the Marauders in a 49-38 non-league loss on the road.
For the first three quarters, the game looked like a tennis match as it was back-and-forth with basket after basket being answered.
Tied after the first quarter, S-E scored 13 in the second to take a slim three point lead into the half time break behind five made three-pointers as a team.
After half time, Unatego flipped scores and scored 13 of their own, allowing the Marauders 11 and tying the game at 34-34.
Once Zeh made his defense switch, the Lady Spartans held Sherburne-Earlville to just four points in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 in the final eight minutes to win by 11.
“We ran out of offense again [Unatego],” said Marauders head coach Jeff Barry. [Bob] kept rotating his kids in and the defensive pressure wore us out.”
Meghan Perry led for the Spartans by scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 boards, recording a double-double. Teammates Morgan Perry finished the night with 11 points, Bailey Faulkner added 10, and Hali Lucia chipped in eight points.
Sherburne-Earlville was led by Kaitlyn Furner, who ended the night 13, while teammate Tessa Cole had 11 points, and Sage Ashton knocked down two three-point field goals to add six for the Marauders.
S-E will play the regular season finale on the road against a tough Adirondack team. The game is scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. start on Tuesday, February 13. After the game, the Lady Marauders will wait for the sectional seed meeting to find out their first round game in the Section III playoffs.

FABIUS – The host Fabius-Pompey Falcons held the visiting Vikings to just three points in the first quarter. Otselic Valley fought back the entire game but a 12-3 first quarter lead proved to be a setback for the Vikings, losing to the host Falcons 50-35 Thursday night.
The Falcons took an eight point lead into the halftime intermission and added another eight in the third to extend it two 16 before heading into the fourth.
The Lady Vikings scored 11 in the quarter but the Falcons exchanged baskets to score 10 and hold onto the lead to score the home win.
OV was led by Amber Meigs, who dropped 20 points, nine coming from three-pointers. Meigs added 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals to her statline. Her teammate Cassie Agren added six points and five steals in the loss.
The Vikings have one last regular season game in McGraw on Monday at 6:30 p.m. After that game, Otselic Valley will wait for their sectional seed to find out who they will play, where they will play and the time of the contest.
