Section III and IV wrestling preview
CHENANGO COUNTY – The Section IV and Section III wrestling tournaments kick-off this Friday and Saturday, and after excelling in class tournaments last weekend, several Chenango County high school wrestlers will compete.
The Section IV tournament will begin at 5 p.m. in Watkins Glen with the 99-lbs weight class, featuring number one seed Norwich wrestler Dante Geislinger versus 16-seed Greene wrestler Lyric Libbey.
Also representing Chenango County in the 99-lbs weight class is number nine seed Jacob Terpstra of Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton-Harpursville (BGAH) and number five seed Andrew Brown of Norwich.
In the 106-lbs weight class, Greene’s Jordan Taft is a five seed, BGAH’s Dylan Decker is a four seed, and Oxford’s Cooper Rice is a two seed.
Wrestling at 113-lbs, Teague Rezucha of BGAH is thirteenth seed and Nick Glanville of Norwich is four seed.
Wrestling at 120-lbs, Brady Smith of Oxford is the eighth seed and Damien Hitt of Greene is the 14-seed.
At 126-lbs, Mikey Squires of Norwich is a number one seed. Greene’s Vincent Giovanetti is also in the weight class at the 12-seed, and Brady Buttice of BGAH is the 10-seed.
16-seed Paul Baker of Oxford will try to pull off an upset in the 132-lbs weight class. Norwich’s Eli Rodriguez is the three seed in the weight class, and BGAH’s Haiden Burns is the seventh seed.
Wrestling at 138-lbs, BGAH’s Ben Bivar is the favorite at the one seed. Oxford’s Daren Law sits at the 13-seed.
At 145-lbs, Greene’s Harrison Stone is the sixth seed, ahead of Norwich’s Dakota Powers at the 10-seed and Talon Rezucha of BGAH at the 11-seed.
Shane Hoover of BGAH is the favorite in the 152-lbs class as the number one seed, and teammate Haiden Lewis is close behind at the three seed. Dakota Hall of Norwich will compete in the weight class at the 15-seed.
BGAH wrestler Mike Wilmot is the number one seed in the 160-lbs weight class. Norwich wrestler Angel Francis will try to pull an upset at the eight seed, along with Greene wrestler Ty Nolan at the 11-seed.
Norwich’s Ty Rifanburg is the favorite at the 170-lbs weight class, with fellow Chenango County wrestler Damien Knapp of BGAH at the 13-seed.
At 182-lbs, Brennan Slater of Norwich is the number one seed. Greene’s Noah Kennedy is fourth seed, and Dakota Friedel of Oxford sits at the seventh seed.
At 195-lbs, Norwich’s Kegan Wright, the lone county wrestler in the weight class, is the fourth seed.
Wrestling at 220-lbs, Tyler Rice of Norwich is the third seed and Brock Weist of BGAH is fourth seed.
At 285-lbs, Dalton Griffith of BGAH will try to pull an upset as the 16-seed.
The Section III tournament will begin Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the SRC Arena located at Onondaga Community College.
Nathan Purtell of Otselic Valley will wrestle for the Section III crown in the 99-lbs weight class at the number five seed. At 138-lbs, OV’s Corbin Learned is the seventh seed.
At 132-lbs, Morgan Lakin of Sherburne is the sixth seed. Sherburne wrestlers Vincent Albertina will compete as an alternate four seed at 152-lbs, Ethan Eldrid as the seventh seed at 170-lbs, Bailey Walzer as the seventh seed at 160-lbs, Jessie Lynch as an alternate third seed at 182-lbs Tanner Campbell as an eight seed at 195-lbs, and Alex Thompson as the third seed at 220-lbs.
