Sex offender jailed for using fake Facebook account
NORWICH – A registered sex offender pleaded guilty after he was caught using a fake email and Facebook account.
Justin R. Pope, 34, of Norwich pleaded guilty on Friday after being charged with failure to register as a sex offender, a class E felony, and is set to receive a year in jail as per his plea.
Pope was previously designated a level three sex offender, and a sexually violent offender in 2005 after having deviant sexual intercourse with a three-year-old female child, according to a sex offender data base provided by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant District Attorney, Michael D. Ferrarese explained to the court that the law requires someone found guilty of being a sex offender to register any of their online social media accounts. “The defendant in this case failed to do so,” he said.
