No injuries in Tuesday's three-vehicle crash with Oxford school bus
NORWICH – On Tuesday a three-vehicle accident involving a school bus resulted in no injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
At around noon the City of Norwich Fire Department was dispatched to a three-car motor vehicle crash involving a Oxford school bus on County Route 32 near the Maple Grove Trailer park in Norwich.
There were 15 students aboard the bus, headed back to the Oxford Academy School District from DCMO BOCES in Norwich, and none were injured in the accident.
Norwich Fire Department Chief Tracy Chawgo said, "Upon arrival an Oxford School bus was parked in the south bound lane of County Route 32 when a second car struck the rear passenger side of the bus before coming to rest against a nearby residence. A third vehicle was parked within the entrance of Maple Grove."
After striking the bus and other parked vehicle, the car then veered from the roadway and struck a mobile home, damaging the home's porch. The driver was not injured.
"After ensuring no injuries on the scene, crews needed to remove a section of hedge trees to extricate the driver of the vehicle that impacted the residence," Chawgo said.
The Oxford School was contacted by the 911 communications center at Chawgo’s request to send a second bus for the bus passengers.
To assist with the towing process, the porch roof of the damaged residence was shored up by the fire department crew and the vehicle was removed from the scene by Golden's Towing.
The Norwich Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
The Evening Sun contacted the Chenango County Sheriff's Office over potential charges or the cause of the accident, but did not hear back before print time Wednesday.
