NORWICH – On Thursday night Stanford Gibson Elementary School held its annual Dr. Seuss night as a way to honor the late author on his birthday and bring families to the school for a night of activities and interactive displays.
Dr. Seuss night featured 15 different activity stations, including Go Dog Go scooter races, a Horton Hears a Who maze, Red Fish “Balloon” Fish, the Grinch’s puzzler math game, a Hop on Pop obstacle course, and more.
Stanford Gibson Elementary Principal Dawn Wenzel said the annual event has been a staple at Gibson for 14 years and wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of Gibson Reading Teacher Betsy Campbell, who coordinated the entire event, as well as the school’s faculty, staff, and community volunteers.
Wenzel said at the first Dr. Seuss night 14 years ago, the school had four activity stations and over 300 people attended. As they’ve expanded the different Dr. Seuss stations, Wenzel said this year they expected 500 people attended.
Every year the event is free and open to the public to come enjoy an evening of learning, playing, and interacting with a Dr. Seuss theme.
