Sidney and M-E crowned co-champions of Section IV Badminton and Table Tennis Championships

BAINBRIDGE – Once again, the Bainbridge-Guilford School District hosted the Section IV Badminton and Table Tennis championships. Section IV is one of only two sections in New York State to host such a tournament.

On Saturday, March 10, a total of 14 teams across Section IV made the trip to Bainbridge to compete for a sectional championship in 10 different events.

This year, Maine-Endwell and Sidney shared top honors at the two schools complied a total of 19 points from their athletes placing in the top four of their respective events.

Local schools that competed were Bainbridge-Guilford, Norwich, and Greene. The Bobcats finished fourth while the Purple Tornado squad placed seventh and the Trojans came in at 10th.

Zoe Mennig of Waverly was awarded the Paul Girolamo Award, which is handed out to the Most Outstanding Badminton Player of the tournament.

Below are the results of the top-four finishes in each category:

Badminton

Boys Singles: 1-Freddy Parpara (Maine-Endwell), 2-Evan Hyzer (Bainbridge-Guilford), 3-James Martuscello (Corning), 4-Brandon Evans (Sidney).

Girls Singles: 1-Zoe Mennig (Waverly), 2-Caroline Stewart (Norwich), 3-Julia Obeata (Sidney), 4-Molly O’Hara (Bainbridge-Guilford).

Boys Doubles: 1-Justin McMillan and Matt Haskins (Sidney), 2-Trevor Halaquist and Cody Ferrera (Bainbridge-Guilford), 3-Sammy Nesmith and Tyree Brodkey (Maine-Endwell), 4-Dusty Root and Trevor Jones (Susquehanna Valley).

Girls Doubles: 1-Angela DeGennaro and Lexi Wanchisen (Maine-Endwell), 2-Mariah Gifford and Savannah Baldwin (Sidney), 3-Sidney Tomasso and Ellie Nittinger (Waverly), 4-Parker Walsh and Halea Eaton (Norwich).

Mixed Doubles: 1-Alyssa Lezote and Travis Smith (Susquehanna Valley), 2-Samantah Ceresna and Devon Scherhaufer (Bainbridge-Guilford), 3-Cindy Lam and Joey Yambor (Walton), 4-Chrissy Boeltz and Bobby Mills (Greene).

Table Tennis

Boys Singles: 1-Jairam Hathwar (Corning), 2-Carson Truman (Maine-Endwell), 3-Max VanDyke (Waverly), 4-Vincent Scalcione (Union-Endicott).

Girls Singles: 1-Paige Miller (Waverly), 2-Kaitlin Bookhout (Sidney), 3-Ally Finnerty (Elmira Notre Dame), 4-Amaya Carlin (Bainbridge-Guilford).

Boys Doubles: 1-Patrick Finnerty and Jack Kaffinbarger (Elmira Notre Dame), 2-Sriram Hathwar and Greg Kobyakar (Corning), 3-Nicholaus Janzen and Cohen Sprague (Waverly), 4-Garrett Beckwih and Corbin Constable (Sidney).

Girls Doubles: 1-Michaela Haskell and Hannah Haskell (Susquehanna Valley), 2-Allie Lamoreaux and Meredith Rose (Maine-Endwell), 3- Alex Tomasso and Wendi Hammond (Waverly), 4-Bryleigh Beaudant and Sarah Bessett (Sidney).

Mixed Doubles: 1-Steven Smith and Mallory Stillman (Sidney), 2-Hayden Smith and Mya Wyatt (Maine-Endwell), 3-Wesley Mills and Megan Burke (Norwich), 4-Adam Srednicki and Holly Manchester (Susquehanna Valley).
