Afton Motorsports Park news and notes

AFTON – This past week was a very successful for Afton Motorsports Park as they held their employee meeting at the Afton River Club. With nearly three feet of snow still on ground and the racing season just under one month away, track promoter Ron Ford and his staff are very optimistic that the Friday, April 13 Test and Tune Session will be able to take place.

Starting this week, 2018 season passes for the pits and grandstands will be on sale. This is a great way to save some money in advance on admission to Afton Motorsports Park. Please contact track promoter Ron Ford at 607-624-3772 or 607-639-1017 (days) to purchase your 2018 Afton Motorsports Park season pass.

Successful businessman Butch Klinger of Walton, and his Klinger Power Sports are returning to sponsor Afton Motorsports Park in 2018 and they are increasing their involvement. For the season, Klinger Power Sports will be providing the park with two Kawasaki four-wheelers for use during the entire 2018 racing season.

Wendy Kuhn, who took over the Afton Motorsports Park Kids Club early in the season last year, has told track management that she is returning to that position this year.

Kuhn has already begun to purchase items for the Afton Motorsports Park Kids Club members. They will receive these items when they sign up on race nights during the season.

New this year for the Kids Club is every race night, one lucky Kids Club Member who signed up for that evening, will receive a free feature pace truck ride. The winner will be able to chose which division they would like to pace the field for the start of their feature.

This year, sign-ups for the Afton Motorsports Park Kids Club will go from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. only.

Veteran southern tier race official Brian Cochardo, has been named by track promoter Ron Ford as the new Pit Steward for the 2018 racing season.

Cochardo came on board during last year’s racing season at Afton Motorsports Park in an observer role. This year, Brian will return to a position that all area racers are familiar with him in as the Pit Steward.

Todd Stanton, who served as Pit Steward last season, will move up to a role assisting track promoter Ron Ford on race nights with a variety of duties.

Afton Motorsports Park will be opening up on Friday, April 13, with a Test and Tune Session for all divisions racing at the track in 2018. Round two of Test and Tune will take place on Friday night, April 20. Each of the Test and Tune Sessions are expected to start at 6:30 p.m. with gates opening at 4 p.m.

The first point race of the year will take place on Friday, April 27, with all gates opening at 4 p.m. and racing starting at 7 p.m. sharp. Racing action will be contested on the ZMK Construction Modifieds, Chambers & O’Hara Open Sportsman, Butler Auto Sales Crate Sportsman, Rinker Insurance Agency Street Stocks, IMCA Modifieds, and Four Cylinder Trucks.
