Team Canasawacta Country Club downed in final quarter of Stars and Stripes
JOHNSON CITY – The Canasawacta Country Club sponsored team at the 19th annual boys Stars and Stripes Classic held the lead through three quarters Wednesday night against team Burger King. However, a 24 point fourth from the players of Burger King led to the come from behind win, 89-82 at Davis College.
Canasawacta Country Club, mostly comprised of players hailing from Chenango County, jumped out to an early 20-16 lead following the end of the first quarter.
With both teams scoring 49 in the second and third quarters combined, team CCC held onto the slim four point advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
In the fourth, Burger King took over. Scoring 24 points in the final quarter of play, the team stepped up on the defensive end also. Only allowing Canasawacta Country Club 13 points, Burger King took the lead and held on for the win in the second game of the night.
Despite the loss, team Canasawacta Country Club hit seven shots from beyond the three-point arc.
Team Burger King was led by Jordanny Curevas-Marte of Ithaca with 26 points.
Canasawacta Country Club received 12 points from Norwich’s Michael Carson. Andrew Jackson of Unadilla Valley added 10 while teammate Jason Davis of Oxford chipped in seven points, six coming from long-range.
Other players from the county who also scored during the game were Levi Rifanburg (Unadilla Valley) dropping four points, Tom Palmatier (Bainbridge-Guilford) tallying four points, Marcus Cashman (Norwich) knocking down a three-pointer and Trevor Halaquist (Bainbridge-Guilford) adding a bucket for two points.
Stars and Stripes action for the boys will continue on Friday, March 23 at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The Canasawacta Country Club team will face Tri-Town Insurance in the consolation game, the first of the contests on Friday night.
