Norwich Cyclones invite public to learn how it is making football safer
NORWICH – The Norwich Cyclones will hold two public information presentations on April 11 and 12 to educate the public on the many ways the local youth football program is making the sport safer.
The presentation will take place in in Norwich High School’s Room 1 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., where President of Norwich Cyclones Kurt Edwards will educate attendees about specific changes in practice and curriculum that are helping to make football safer for young athletes.
“We welcome the opportunity to better educate the community about how Norwich Cyclones have made, and continue to make, strides toward making football safer,” said Edwards.
Edwards – who has years of experience coaching football at the pop warner, junior varsity, and varsity levels – said the presentation will touch on the Cyclones’ purpose and philosophy, its training requirements for coaches, and weight and age eligibility that are unique to pop warner football.
Norwich High School varsity head coach and Norwich Pop Warner board member Mike Chrystie will also be in attendance at the event.
“I am very proud to be part of the Cyclone program,” said Chrystie. “The varsity and Cyclone program continue to collaborate on a number of program and curriculum initiatives. Our program goals, philosophy and expectations are truly aligned.”
After the presentations, parents will have the opportunity to sign their children up to participate in Norwich Cyclones for a 20 percent discount in the registration fee. Early registrations will be accepted for all ages 7-12 for a price of $35.
There are no try-outs for Norwich Pop Warner; registrants are retained up to the maximum team roster size by order of sign ups.
Both presentations will be free and open to the public to attend.
