Lady Bobcats take road win over Afton; Greene overcomes Sidney’s first inning rally to win 9-4
AFTON – A highly anticipated match-up between two of the top MAC softball teams took place on Friday, with the outcome in favor of the Lady Bobcats 3-0, over the host Afton Crimson Knights.
Through the first four innings, it was a battle between both Bainbridge-Guilford and Afton on the mound as the two teams were unable to put any runs on the board.
The Bobcats’ Kori Thornton had five strikeouts through four and two-thirds while Afton’s Tracy Hatton matched the strikeout total of five.
In the fifth, B-G tallied all three of their runs. Two of their three came when Ashley Matthews’ shot off the bat resulted with a two-run home run.
Matthews finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
Afton’s Sam Scholelier and Mills both went 2-for-3.
The Bobcats looks to keep their undefeated record intact when they travel south to Harpursville on Monday. Game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The Crimson Knights are also in action at the same time in Delhi on Monday.

SIDNEY – Trailing 4-0 after the first inning, the Lady Trojans had their work cut out for them in Sidney on Friday. Chipping at the lead in both the second and third innings, Greene took a 5-4 lead and were able to add four more in the fifth to top the home Lady Warriors for the 9-4 win.
Greene’s pitcher Olivia Kennedy, who has been strong on the mound to start this spring season, struggled a little bit in the first plate appearance for the Warriors, allowing three hits for the home team.
By the second, Kennedy found her rhythm and didn’t allow another hit for the rest of the game.
Helping their pitcher’s cause were Chrissy Boeltz, McKenna Sergi and Alex Brown. Boeltz finished the game with three hits in four at-bats while Sergi and Brown racked up two hits each.
Olivia DeMott got the start for Sidney in the circle and struck out seven while allowing nine runs on ten hits as she pitched the complete game.
Kennedy recorded four strikeouts with five walks, three hits and four runs over the full seven-inning game.
The Lady Trojans are scheduled to host Deposit on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
