Vehicle downs power lines in New Berlin causing road closure

NEW BERLIN – New York State Police responded to an accident Wednesday morning, where police said a vehicle crossed over a double yellow line and struck a utility pole, cutting the power and causing minor injuries to the driver.

Trooper Aga Dembinska said the accident occurred at around 12:55 a.m. on County Route 8 in New Berlin, and it involved a 50-year-old male driver who was brought to Basset Hospital in Cooperstown for minor injuries.

Currently the road remains blocked off to the public due to downed electrical lines, “We don’t want people to get electrocuted as utility workers make their repairs,” said Dembinska.

An investigation for the cause of the accident is still underway.
