Palmatier homers twice, Lady Bobcats remain undefeated; Deposit’s Stiles pitches perfect game against Lady Storm

BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcat senior Megan Palmatier sent two over the fence, one clearing the bases in the Bobcats 12-1 rout over host Unatego Spartans Wednesday afternoon.
In the fourth inning, B-G scored five runs as a team. Four of those scored were when the bases were loaded and Palmatier stepped up to the plate, drilling a grand-slam for her fifth home run of the season.
One inning later, Palmatier sent another shot for a two-run homer. She finished 3-for-5 at the plate while batting in six Bobcat runners.
Bainbridge-Guilford’s Kori Thornton “threw the ball great,” said Bobcats’ head coach Randy Palmatier. Thornton picked up her sixth win of the season, recording five strikeouts and allowing only four hits for the Spartans.
In the circle for five and two-thirds innings, Thornton threw 73 pitches, 49 of them called strikes. Teammate Alli Miller relieved her for the final out of the inning and the seventh.
Thornton helped herself with the win as she went 3-for-4 in her plate appearances, hitting a double and recording two RBI’s.
B-G had a total of 12 hits in the game, eight of them coming from different Bobcat batters.
Unatego’s only run came in the fourth inning when Mallory Frazier crossed the plate.
Paige McCoy was on the mound for the Spartans for three and one-third innings and Fraizer came on in relief in the fourth to finish the game.
The Bobcats are scheduled for a non-game in Norwich Thursday afternoon while Unatego will travel to Oxford for a MAC conference matchup. If the weather does not postpone either game, both are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.

DEPOSIT – Makenzie Stiles, Deposit’s ace in the circle, threw her 11th career perfect game against the visiting Unadilla Valley Lady Storm Wednesday night as they won 15-0 in five innings.
The New York State softball record for perfect games pitched now belongs to Stiles after holding the Storm without a base runner or a run for the contest.
Unadilla Valley’s pitcher Bella Russo was in the circle for four innings of work on the road. Despite only one strikeout recorded by Russo, 19 of her first pitches thrown to the Deposit batters were called strikes.
Deposit’s Bryn Martin homered in the one at-bat for the home team. Martin finished 4-for-4 at the plate with five RBI’s while crossing the plate three times.
Her teammates Kyra Martin, Aubrin Smith, Mikala Anderson and Stiles all doubled in the win.
Stiles is currently undefeated in her four appearances for Deposit this season. She has verbally committed to the University of Pittburgh upon graduating.
The Lady Storm are scheduled to face Sidney Thursday afternoon. First pitch will be thrown at approximately 4:30 p.m.
