Lumberjacks hands Lady Bobcats first loss of season

DEPOSIT – The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats struggled to get their offense going on Monday against Deposit’s stand-out in the circle, Makenzie Stiles, as the home Lady Lumberjacks won 10-0.
After three scoreless innings, Deposit struck first in the bottom of the fourth when they scored two runs on a bases clearing double by Kyra Martin, scoring Erin Ballard from third and Bryn Martin from second.
B-G’s starting pitcher Morgan Neidig got out of a bases loaded jam in the same inning, forcing two Deposit batters to ground out and striking out another.
Neidig allowed three hits and three runs over four innings, striking out two in four inning of work on the rubber.
The first hit allowed by Stiles was given up to the Bobcats’ Bree Barber in the fourth inning. Barber hit a two-out double, lining a shot to the centerfielder. She was left on base, however, as her teammate K Davy lined out to the leftfielder.
Bailey Hart recorded a single in the fifth and Megan Palmatier had a base hit in the sixth to give B-G a total of three hits.
Stiles, picking up the win for Deposit with a complete game pitched, struck out 12 Bobcats.
The Lumberjacks’ Bryn Martin had the hot bat for the home team as she went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, four RBIs and three runs scored for the afternoon.
Deposit next play at Oxford on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. while Bainbridge-Guilford looks to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they host Walton on the same day.

Oneonta 16, Norwich 0 (Five Innings)
ONEONTA – Norwich held their rivals, the Oneonta Yellowjackets, to three runs in the first inning, keeping the game within reach until the third. In that frame, Oneonta extended their lead following seven runs scored, going on to win 16-0 at home Monday afternoon.
Oneonta’s Ally Baker earned the win in the circle with as she went for three innings without allowing a Norwich hit.
She did allow on baserunner with a walk but struckout two Norwich batters. Baker helped her own cause, hitting 2-for-2 and scored two runs with two RBIs on the afternoon.
The Purple Tornado’s Lexi Whaley reached on Baker’s only walk in the top of the third while teammate Morgan Conkling picked up the only hit of the game for Norwich one inning later.

Alex Colley took the loss for Norwich and was relieved by Olivia Granquist in the third.

Norwich and Oneonta will meet again Tuesday afternoon, this time with the Purple hosting at 4:30 p.m.

Afton 15, Sidney 8

SIDNEY – Afton’s Tracy Hatton pitched a complete game, striking out eight Sidney Warriors, aiding in the 15-8 road win Monday.

The Lady Crimson Knights started the game off scoring five runs in the top of the first and added another five run inning in the fourth.

Sidney responded in the bottom of the first with three runs but were unable to stop Afton from scoring until the fifth inning.

Afton scored five runs combined in the second and third winnings, accouting for their 15 total.

The Lady Warriors attempted a comeback effort in the bottom of the sixth when they tacked on three runs to their total, making the score 15-7. However, in their last at-bats, Sidney was only able to add one run, giving the Crimson Knights a seven run win.

With 15 hits as a team, three Afton players doubled in the game.

The Lady Crimson Knights travel to Delhi Tuesday afternoon for a make-up game from earlier in the season. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Harpursville 12, Oxford 3

OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks led after one but fell behind in the second and were unable to post any kind of comeback bid in their 12-3 loss to the visiting Harpursville Hornets Monday.

The first inning ralley for the Blackhawks started when Trinity Vargas singled followed by a Jessie Howe single.

Teammate Destiny Oralls hit a deep fly ball that should have been caught by the Hornets’ centerfielder but was mishandled and scored as an error. Vargas scored from second and Howe moved to third. Howe scored on Allison Beckwith shot to the left fielder that again resulted in an error by a Harpursville outfielder.

Oxford third and final run scored on a fielder’s choice by Caitlyn Quigley while Oralls crossed the plate.

Harpursville got out of the inning three Blackhawk batters later.

Then the high-powered offense of Harpursville came alive in the second when they scored five and didn’t show signs of slowing down. The Lady Hornets added two more in the third, sixth and seventh innings.

Allison Beckwith took the loss for the Blackhawks as she pitched the full seven innings, allowing seven hits. She struck out 16 batters and gave up three earned runs in the contest. The other nine runs scored by Harpursville were due to errors by the Oxford defense.

Saleen Medovich led the Harpursville to victory on the pitcher’s mound, giving up three hits and three runs over seven innings and striking out seven Blackhawk batter.

Oxford’s Jessie Howe was hot at the plate, going 2-for-3 in the loss.

The Blackhawks are again in action Tuesday when they host the Lady Spartans of Unatego. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
