NORWICH – New York State Electric and Gas Corporation has begun working on the gas lines under streets in the City of Norwich, and will continue working on them throughout the summer.

According to the City of Norwich’s Department of Public Works Assistant Superintendent George Carnrike, construction will take place on several streets this summer, including Canasawacta, Henry, Fair, Court, and Guernsey. He said local traffic will be allowed to pass through.

“They’ll let local traffic in and out, and the only time the streets will be officially closed is when [the city’s department of public works] comes in to repave the roads,” said Carnrike.

He added that NYSEG is required by the public service commission to replace the steel gas lines with plastic lines, and anyone with concerns can contact to NYSEG for more information.
