Frank Speziale Photo NEW BERLIN – The Frank H. Arnold Post 348 of the American Legion has announced retired Major General Peter Lennon will be the guest speaker at Memorial Day services slated for Monday, May 28 in the Village of New Berlin. Lennon served 40 years with the U.S. Army and was stationed in Iraq, Kuwait, and Bosnia.
Memorial Day observances will kick-off at 9:30 a.m., with a parade beginning at Hyde Park and proceeding south down North Main Street before entering the Milford Academy School lawn on South Main Street.
Frank H. Arnold Post 438 members are requesting that participants in the parade fall in in the following order: American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, veterans, the Unadilla Valley School Band, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Pittsfield Fire Department, New Berlin Fire Department, and any other organization or unit that would like to participate.
All veterans – regardless of what military branch or time frame – are asked to attend and to fall in behind the American Legion during the parade. Any organizations that wish to join the festivities are asked to have their units at Hyde Park between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
Services will begin on the Milford Academy School lawn at roughly 9:50 a.m, and Post 348 members are asking all locals to honor the day by displaying the United States flag and observing the true meaning of Memorial Day.
In a statement from Post 348 said, "Please, all American Legion members are requested to participate in this Memorial Day service. If you are able to take part in the parade by marching, you will need to be at the legion home by 9 a.m. If you are unable to march, please try to be in front of Milford Academy on the terraces by 9:45 a.m. or as soon as the parade ends to show your support."
An open house event at the Frank H. Arnold Post 348 will immediately follow the services, with refreshments provided by the Legion and the Legion Auxiliary.
