Railroad through Norwich open for business

Frank Speziale Photo NORWICH – The County of Chenango Industrial Agency shipped a commercial freight through Norwich on June 13, signaling the completion of a railroad restoration project that began over 12 years ago, and an open market for potential consumers.


In an official statement, the Commerce Chenango President and CEO Steve Craig stated the shipment began at Bull Moose Tube Company in Elkhart, Indiana and was headed towards the Di Highway Sign and Structure Corporation in New York Mills, by Utica.


“In 2006, after floodwaters severely damaged the line in more than twenty locations in Chenango County, NYSW suspended service,” stated Craig.


He stated two years later the New York Susquehanna and Western Railroad filed to abandon the line.
