Volunteers clean-up New Berlin’s Millbrook Park ahead of holiday
NEW BERLIN – A group of volunteers from Unison Industries and GE Aerospace traveled to New Berlin on June 8 and June 20 to help clean-up Millbrook Park by clearing trails of obstacles and painting the park’s outdoor furniture.
Millbrook is a recreational facility funded by the Town of New Berlin free to enter, where campsites and pavilions are available for rent to the public. The Millbrook Recreation Center, also known as the Doc. Meyers Recreation Park, is located off King Settlement Road on County Road 29.
“The volunteers did an awesome job getting everything cleaned up this year,” said New Berlin Town Clerk Deborah Barker.
According to Barker General Electric has been involved in the New Berlin community for several years, and each year they take part in a volunteer project.
This year two groups from the company took part in the volunteer work.
“Each group took on a different responsibility, with one walking the two mile trails, clearing them for future hikers, and picking up trash,” said Barker.
Barker said the other group of volunteers painted the new picnic tables, touched up older tables, and did the same for the benches along the basketball court.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the volunteer’s dedication, and ask those who know the volunteers thank them for their generosity, hard work, and kindness,” said Barker.
The park is open year round for such activities as; swimming, fishing, hiking, camping and cross country skiing.
There are also facilities for volleyball and basketball, along with a sandy playground area available for children. However, any swimming done is at the individual’s own risk.
There are three reservable areas including a sandy area, a pavilion outside the fenced area, and a hilltop pavilion.
A request form must be filled out and payment made to hold a reservation, and reservations are made through the New Berlin Town Office, (607) 847-8909. Set fees for camping are required, and barker said donations are appreciated and dedicated to the operation of the center.
For any other questions please call the town hall (607) 847-8907.
