Storm splits match play with Delhi and Sidney; Blackhawks lose 1st match of season

EDMESTON – The Unadilla Valley Storm golf team played on two of the hottest days of the year for their past two matches. While they were able to take down Delhi 233-315 on Tuesday, a tough Sidney group weathered the high-powered Storm 226-275 on Wednesday.
In Tuesday’s match, UV saw four of their five scoring players shoot in the 40’s to take the commanding win over Delhi on their home course of Red Pines.
With the par score being a 36 for the nine hole course in Edmeston, Andrew Jackson and Brandon Kneale each shot a round that was just five-over-par (41). Their teammates Drew Emrich and Gavin Church finished their day with a 48 for each golfer. Spencer Meade rounded out the Storm scorecard with a strong 55.
Delhi’s Miles Philion was the top medalist of the match, posting a 38.
Looking to stay a perfect 3-for-3 in match play on Wednesday, Unadilla Valley went on the road to face the Sidney Warriors.
Sidney had different plans through as all five of the Warriors turned in scores in the 40’s.
Dominic Hartwell led the field with a 43, despite UV’s Jackson chasing. Jackson finished the front nine at the Sidney Country Club just one stroke behind (44) from Hartwell’s top score while Kneale ended the afternoon just one stroke (45) back of his teammate.
The Warriors’ Corbin Constable and JP Dewey tied Kneale’s round score of 45. Garrett Beckwith shot a 46 and Ryan Cole rounded out the top five with a 47.
Emrich ended his nine-hole round with a 60 while Jacob Figger shot a 62 and Levi Rifanburg scored a 64.
The Storm are now 2-1 on the season. They will have some time to rest before facing Bainbridge-Guilford on Friday, September 7.
Delhi 271, Oxford 283
DELHI – The Oxford Blackhawks were another team that was taking a perfect season record into a match on Wednesday. Traveling to the College Golf Course at Delhi, one of the toughest course on the schedule, Oxford knew they were going to have their hands full.
The scores were coming in nearly the same for the front nine par-36 and it was going to take a low score by one person to win the match.
Delhi’s Miles Philion was the golfer to turn in that low score as he shot a 35 (1-under-par) to become Wednesday medalist of the match and aiding in the team win for the Bulldogs.
Oxford’s Jason Davis and Garrett Depew both finished the match with the next lowest score of 46.
Their teammates Liam O’Brien and Nick Cirello each shot a 62 while Christian Paden finished out the top five with a 67.
Oxford will look to rebound from their first loss of the season on Wednesday, September 5, when they host Bainbridge-Guilford at BlueStone Golf Course.
