Lady Vikings 1st half goal enough for win over foe DeRuyter

OTSELIC – The Vikings played a very hard fought game against rival DeRuyter Thursday evening and came out at the 1-0 victors.

In the first half, Otselic Valley controlled the ball and gave themselves many opportunities to score. With nine minutes remaining in the first half of play, the Vikings’ Jessica Comfort found herself at the end of a through ball from teammate Lily Lyon and punched into the back of the net for the goal that ultimately became the game winner.

Otselic Valley switched their game plan up in the second half with plans to limit DeRuyter’s top offensive players – Graycee Forrest and Taylor Way – from gaining any chances to score. OV’s head coach Eric Wentworth said the Vikings’ Maygan Roy had a big role in their ability to do so as she controlled the defensive third of the field.

“As a coach, I was happy with how we kept our intensity high the entire game,” said Wentworth. “It was a hard fought game, and I’m pleased we came out on top.”

The Vikings will face Morrisville-Eaton on Saturday.
