Alleged drug robbery in Norwich leaves victim badly beaten

NORWICH – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has charged four individuals with robbery after they allegedly contacted the victim for marihuana and assaulted him when he arrived, knocking-out the victim’s teeth, causing lacerations to the victim’s head, along with other bodily trauma.


Police said the attack occurred at about 11:30 p.m., Tuesday.


“Co-defendants Brenden C. Gager, age 18, Hunter J. Speenburgh, age 19, and Landon T. Cummings, age 21 were hiding in the area of 110 Bourbon St. until the victim showed up,” reported the Sheriff’s Office Wednesday. “As the victim arrived at the residence, the three men assaulted and robbed him for the marihuana. It was also reported that the defendants stole cash from the victim.”

Gager of Plymouth, Speenburgh of Plymouth, and Cummings of Norwich, were each charged with second-degree robbery, a class C felony and third-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor.


Another defendant, Jade T. Orlando, 19, of Norwich, was also charged with second-degree robbery, a class C felony.


“There’s an allegation that several individuals robbed someone, and during the course of the robbery the individuals injured the victim,” said Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride.
