And then there were four… Afton field hockey heads to the final four of state tournament

CICERO – The Crimson Knights delivered a first half blow to the Holland Patent and held on to their 1-0 lead throughout the second 30 minutes of play to win the regional final, moving into the New York State tournament final four.

Afton’s Madison Baciuska found Taylor Schultz, who then rifled a shot into into the back of the cage to score midway through the first half.

Schultz’ goal turned out to be the one scored despite several tries for Baciuska and the shots by their opponent, the Golden Knights.

Jordan Nichols, the Crimson Knights keeper, kept Holland Patent scoreless for the shut out, her ninth of the season.

Moving on to the semifinals on Saturday, November 10, Afton will see Lakeland out of Section I. Lakeland is the defending state champion from a year ago and is currently on the quest for their 10th New York State Class B title.
