Oxford improves 4-2 with win over Afton

B-G rolls to second win; OV handed loss by Lions
OXFORD – The Oxford Lady Blackhawks’ defense forced the Afton Crimson Knights into 21 turnovers, leading to 18 points on the offensive end en route to the 56-25 win at home Thursday night.
Oxford won the turnover battle, only recording 12 on the offensive end while their 11 steals on defense created their offense.
The Blackhawks led 32-10 by the end of the first half of action. During the 16 minute stretch, Oxford saw balanced scoring throughout the lineup as they were led Ellie Ryan and Madalyn Barrows’ combined total of 16 points. Teammates Caitlyn Quigley and Karly Miller each chipped in six points before the intermission.
Following the break, Afton’s Olivia Harris-Morris scored her team-high eight points while teammate Sam Schoelier added six points that were spread over the course of the game.
Harris-Morris and Schoelier were also the Crimson Knights’ rebouning leaders. Harris-Morris finished the game with 10 boards while Schoelier pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.
Ryan led all scorers in the contest with her 14 point total, shooting 58.3-percent from the floor. As a team, Oxford shot 37-percent.
Barrows finished with 11 points while Miller tallied 10 points and five rebounds. Quigley ended the night with eight points.
Both Hannah Hodge and Allison Beckwith pulled in a team-high seven boards of the glass for Oxford.
The Blackhawks and the Crimson Knights are off until Thursday, December 20 when Oxford hosts Sidney and Afton plays at home against Unatego. Afton’s game will start at 6:30 p.m. while Oxford’s tip-off time is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

SIDNEY – The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats defense did not allow the host Sidney Warriors to score double digits in any of their four quarters of play Thursday night, leading to their 86-15 league win on the road.
The entire Lady Bobcats roster contributed at least one made basket to the scoreboard as they totaled 38 made field goals in the game.
Abi Selfridge of B-G scored 11 of her game-high 28 points in the first quarter and teammate Macie Leizear made a total of nine baskets, two coming from behind the 3-point arc, for 22 in the contest.
Bainbridge-Guilford opened the first quarter of play with a 28-1 run and added two more 20-plus point quarters of the three that remained.
In the second stanza, Sidney posted their highest single quarter point total of seven points behind Emma Simmons four. She finished as the Warriors leading scorer with the two first goals made during the eight minute stretch.
Matraca Harmon of the Bobcats also reached double digits in the scoring column, ending the night with 13 points. Alli Miller contributed nine and Erica Selfridge chipped in six points, all coming from 3-point range.
The Bobcats (2-1) are on the road against non-league opponent Chenango Forks Tuesday night. Game is slated for a 7:15 p.m. start time.

CINCINNATUS – Otselic Valley trailed by a single point heading into the final quarter of play against league foe Cincinnatus Thursday night. However, the Lady Lions limited OV to just one made field goal in the fourth and turned up their offensive production, pouring in 17 points to claim a 45-29 victory.
Over the course of the game, the Lions took advantage of Otselic Valley’s 24 turnovers to create their offensive opportunities.
The Lady Vikings led 8-5 after the first quarter but a 15 point second by Cincinnatus sent OV into the locker room at halftime down by four.
Out of the break, Otselic Valley out scored the Lions 11-8, closing the four point margin down to one point heading to into the last eight minutes of play.
In the final eight minutes, Cincinnatus’ Delany Rutan score nine points to pace the 17 points scored by the Lions. Rutan finished with a game-high 19.
Otselic Valley had a good night on the boards as Jessica Comfort tallied 11 rebounds while teammates Cassie Agren pulled down nine to go along with six point in the scoring column.
The Lady Vikings were led by Leah Kalin’s 10 points and Maygan Roy added eight in the loss.
OV (2-3) looks to bounce back on Saturday when they play Pulaski in the Coaches vs Cancer game at Onondaga Community College. Game time is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
