Greene/Oxford wrestling earns first league win

DEPOSIT – The Greene/Oxford team was on the road to face Deposit/Hancock wrestling team Thursday night and came out the winners of a 49-22 final score, picking up their first league win of the season.

Greene/Oxford started the match out with a 30-0 lead after receiving forfeits by Deposit/Hancock in the first six bouts.

The action on the mat started 132 pounds with G/O’s Damien Hitt facing Joey Rumola of D/H. Hitt and Rumola went the distance, wrestling all three periods but Hitt had control of the match earn and didn’t take his foot off of the gas pedal. The Greene/Oxford wrestler earned four points for his team after picking up a 16-4 major decision victory.

Owen Wormuth, Deposit/Hancock’s stand-out wrestler at 138 pounds, won by pinfall in the second period as he defeated Greene/Oxford’s Hunter Wells. With the win, Wormuth improved to 8-1 on the season. His pin was the first of two straight bout wins for the host team.

D/H’s River Burgess beat Paul Baker of Greene/Oxford with a 10-1 major decision win. Deposit/Hancock added six more points to their team total with a forfeit by G/O at 152 pounds.
