Fatal car accident claims the life of 27-year-old in Columbus

COLUMBUS – A fatal car accident in the Town of Columbus resulted in the death of a 27-year-old man the closure of County Road 25 for several hours Saturday. The man was traveling with a woman passenger at the time, who suffered minor injuries, and police are still trying to understand why the head-on crash occurred.


According to New York State Police Troop C Commander Major William F. McEvoy, State Police at Norwich were dispatched to a head-on collision at approximately 1:34 a.m., Saturday.


"An investigation revealed that a 27-year-old male from Sherburne, NY was traveling west on County Road 25 when he crossed into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason," said McEvoy. "He was pronounced dead at the scene."

Police said there was also a 26-year-old female passenger from Edmeston in the vehicle, and she sustained minor injuries.
