Second annual Twin Tiers International Film Festival accepting submissions
NORWICH – The Twin Tiers International Film Festival in Norwich announced last week it is accepting submissions for the second annual film festival slated to take place in September 2019.
The first Twin Tiers International Film Festival took place this year at Chenango Arts Council's Martin W. Kappel theater on September 7, 8, and 9, the same weekend as Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival.
The festival featured screenings of 52 films submitted in a variety of categories including documentary, comedy, horror, drama, animation, sci-fi and more. On Wednesday, festival director Christopher Pike announced a new category aimed at student filmmakers will be included in next year's festival, called "Made in NY."
"Made in New York was made to highlight and bring focus to student filmmakers standing school in the state," said Pike. "This category will give us a distinct and separate way to encourage and screen student films made right in our hometowns. It also gives students the opportunity to showcase their talents to a wider audience, gain experience throughout the festival process and earn recognition for their films that perhaps they wouldn't have gotten before."
The Twin Tiers International Film Festival is also partnering with the SUNYwide film festival this year, which takes at SUNY Oswego on April 5 and 6, 2019. The top three films from SUNYwide will be selected to screen and compete in the "Made in NY" category at next year's Twin Tiers.
A release from the Twin Tiers International Film Festival states that eligible students from schools surrounding Norwich will be given a free VIP pass just for submitting into the "Made in NY" category, and all selected filmmakers receive two free passes.
Submissions in the "Made in NY" category will compete only among other films within the category, and the winner will receive a trophy and other gifts from local businesses. Last year's festival received 203 film submissions.
Submissions for the second annual Twin Tiers International Film Festival in Norwich can be completed online now until July 20, 2019. For complete eligibility rules, information and to submit your film, visit www.twintiersfilmfest.com.
