The perfect storm: Lady Tornado stays undefeated after first road game
S-E and OV dealt tough losses
WINDSOR – The Purple Tornado girls basketball team scored 20-plus points in each of the first three quarters on Monday night, bringing home a 74-36 road win over the Windsor Black Knights to remain undefeated for the season.
Norwich started the game on a 16-0 run before finishing the first quarter with a 22-8 lead. During the first eight minutes of play, the Tornado were led by Taylor Hansen and Sydney Coggins as both scored six points each.
Hansen followed up her first quarter performance with six more points in the second as Norwich scored 21 points in the stretch while holding the host Black Knights to five points with the Tornado’s very active and aggressive defense.
Out of the halftime break, Norwich once again went on a run to finish with 20 points to total 63 points over the first three quarters of play. In the stanza, Hansen had her best quarter of the night to had nine points to lead all scorers for the contest with 21 points.
Also having a big night were Coggins and Nicole Jeffrey, each ending the night with 12 points. Both Cogging and Jeffrey drained three 3-pointers in the game on their way to their individual point totals.
Abby Flynn chipped in nine points in the win while there were three Norwich teammates tied with four and Emily Evans finished with five.
Windsor had balanced scoring throughout the team but the Tornado’s defense didn’t allow for any member of the team to reach double digits in the game. The Black Knights were led by McKenna Corbin’s six points.
Norwich (3-0) will face tough test on the road when they travel to the Saints of Seton Catholic on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
The Lady Purple Tornado junior varsity squad suffered their first loss of the season against Windsor, losing 49-44. They will look to rebound against Seton Thursday.

SHERBURNE – The Lady Marauders held tough with a much taller Adirondack team through the first half of their contest Friday night. However, a 14-3 run by the visiting Wildcats in the third quarter secured the league win for Adirondack. Sherburne-Earlville closed in the lead in the fourth quarter, pulling within eight points but couldn’t get over the hump, losing 45-36.
The Lady Marauders held the first quarter advantage after 3-pointers by Sage Ashton, Kaitlyn Furner and Amberlyn Robertson led the offense while their defense held Adirondack to one basket from the floor. The rest of the Wildcats points in the stanza came at the free throw line.
After scoring 15 points in the second, Adirondack took just a three point lead into the halftime break.
However, out of the intermission, Sherburne-Earlville turned the ball over on four straight possessions and the Wildcats converted on the offensive end. The S-E turnovers aided in the Adirondack high scoring eight minute stretch as they took a 36-22 lead into the final quarter of play.
The fourth quarter saw the Marauders slowly chip away at the Wildcats’ lead as the home team outscored their opponent 14-9 but it wasn’t enough to overcome the margin.
Sherburne-Earlville was led by Furner’s 17 points while Robertson and Tessa Cole both tallied six, draining two 3-pointers each. Ashton added five in the loss.
Belle Kranbuhl led the Wildcats with 17 points. Teammate Camile Roberts added 11 for Adirondack.
The Marauders (4-2) travel to Canastota on Tuesday as they look to rebound from back-to-back losses. Game time for the league game is slated for 7 p.m.

SYRACUSE – Playing at Onondaga Community College, the Otselic Valley Vikings came alive in the second half but it was too late as Pulaski held a 22-7 lead at the break and continued to add to their score for a final of 53-30 on Saturday afternoon.
Pulaski held a 14-1 lead after the first quarter of play after a rough start to the Vikings game. In the second stanza, they nearly matched their opponent by scoring six points to Pulaski’s eight but the first eight minute lead was too much to overcome.
Otselic Valley scored 11 in the third quarter and 12 in the fourth to close out the game on a good note. Their strong second half was led by Gracie Costa’s 12 points and half of Cassie Agren’s team-high 15.
Agren was the only Lady Viking to score in the first half, finishing with seven first half points.
Lauren Denny of Pulaski led all scorers with 17 while her teammate Sam Paternoster ended the afternoon with 13.
OV is action again on Wednesday as they head to Madison for a 6 p.m. game.
