Norwich man charged with raping young child

NORWICH – A Norwich man was charged with rape on Tuesday after child protective services and police said he sexually assaulted and raped a six-year-old girl.


Jamie Lynn Whitmore Jr., 23, of Norwich was charged with first-degree rape, a class B felony, first-degree criminal sexual act, a class B felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.


According to court records, the crime allegedly occurred on November 19, on Borden Avenue, in the City of Norwich.


Records state charges are based on a complaint from Chenango County Child Protective Services and an investigation conducted by members of the Norwich Police Department.
