NORWICH – The Purple Tornado never trailed in their game against Windsor Wednesday night, winning the STAC divisional game, 54-38.
Skylar Wenzel of Norwich finished the game with a 57.1 shooting percentage from the floor as he put up 16 points in the win.
Mujuni Mutabiilwa ended the night with a subtle 13 points, a season-high for the Purple Tornado guard. Mutabiilwa drilled both of his 3-point attempts in the game, shooting a perfect percentage from long-distance.
In the win, Norwich turned the ball over 18 times but nearly stole it back immediately. The Tornado’s J.T. Vinal, the team’s second leading scorer this season, had a tough night shooting the ball but was able to contribute in other way on the floor.
Vinal pulled in a team high eight boards off the glass – five coming on the defensive end of the floor – and had eight takeaways in the game to lead Norwich in both stat columns.
The Tornado held an 11-9 lead after one but extended the margin to eight points by the halftime break. In the third quarter, Norwich put together a 15-8 run as they settled down and got back to their usual play on the floor.
Coming in off the bench to provide the team with good minutes were Jahlil Jones and Thomas Flanagan offensively while teammate Drew Walsh put the clamps on Windsor scorers.
