Irwin’s triple-double paces Marauders to win over Clinton
SHERBURNE – The Marauders’ Gabe Irwin tallied the first triple-double of the season, ending the night with 13 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in the Sherburne-Earlville 56-39 win over league opponent Clinton.
Leading by 11 points after the first half, S-E went on a 23-9 run in the third quarter. Outscoring Clinton by 14 helped the Marauders break away for the win.
Clinton did make a push in the fourth with their 14-6 run but the big scoring stanza by Sherburne-Earlville was too much to overcome.
In the opening quarter, S-E jumped out to an 18-11 lead behind Hunter Lane and Noah Posson’s offensive attack. Lane and Posson each scored seven points in the early quarter. Lane finished with 13 for the game while Posson scored all them, in an eight minute stretch.
Irwin was deadly from long-range in the contest, knocking down three from beyond the arc for nine of his total points.
The Marauders saw an equal scoring contribution several players as Robert Hill chipped in six points, both Troy Fleming and Ryan Asma kicked in five, John Oley added four and Nathan Hadlock scored three.
Sherburne-Earlville travels to the Unadilla Valley Storm Holiday Tournament next Thursday and Friday.
