B-G girls hoops overwhelm Afton on the road

AFTON – Abigail Selfridge scored 26 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out five assists, and Macie Leizear added 16 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, in visiting Bainbridge-Guilford’s 70-24 Midstate Athletic Conference road rout at Afton Tuesday night.
Held off the scoreboard for almost three minutes to open the game, the Bobcats (7-2) scored a double dozen over the final 5:12 to take a 24-4 lead. Selfridge and Leizear scored eight points apiece in the quarter.
Afton (3-5), who got eight first-half points from Casey East, nearly matched the Bobcats in the second quarter, but couldn’t close the gap - B-G extending to a 35-13 intermission lead.
“We did a better job of moving the ball in the second quarter, but couldn’t finish,” Afton coach Lacey Stanton said.
Selfridge scored 10 points and B-G scored the first sixteen points of the third quarter to extend the lead to 53-15 after 24 minutes.
Erica Selfridge scored five of her seven points in the fourth quarter and finished the evening with 11 rebounds and six assists.
B-G dominated the glass on both ends and forced 21 Afton turnovers.
East added seven rebounds and three steals for the host Crimson Knights, who host Delhi Friday night.
Bainbridge-Guilford, who got eight points from Isabelle Decker, hosts Harpursville Thursday night.
