Judge dismisses civil lawsuit against former Cuomo appointee
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A federal judge in Manhattan has dismissed a civil lawsuit filed by a woman who claimed a former appointee of Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed her after getting her a state job.
The judge on Tuesday also dismissed a lawsuit Lisa Marie Cater filed against New York's economic development agency, where William "Sam" Hoyt was a top official before resigning in 2017 amid her harassment allegations.
One lawsuit alleged the former state assemblyman from Buffalo repeatedly harassed Cater starting in 2015 after helping her find an apartment and a state job. The other claimed that Empire State Development officials ignored Hoyt's alleged conduct.
The judge said he dismissed the lawsuits because a $50,000 settlement Cater received from Hoyt in 2017 to keep their relationship secret precluded her from making future harassment claims.
