Norwich High School teacher resigns in wake of public lewdness arrest
NORWICH – A Norwich City School District business teacher resigned Thursday, two days after being arrested by Oneonta Police Department for public lewdness.
On Friday NCSD Superintendent Gerard O'Sullivan issued a statement to say Norwich High School Business Teacher Benjamin Truesdail resigned from the district on Thursday. He had worked for the school since Sept. of 2016.
"I understand it was a personal decision that had nothing to do with the Norwich City School District and certainly nothing to do with any of our students and staff," said O'Sullivan.
On Friday the City of Oneonta Police Department confirmed Truesdail was arrested on Tuesday for public lewdness, a class B misdemeanor.
The department wouldn't offer any specifics on the arrest, but state law finds someone guilty of public lewdness "...when he or she intentionally exposes the private or intimate parts of his or her body in a lewd manner or commits any other lewd act..."
O'Sullivan said, "However on a different note, I am overwhelmed by the efforts of High School Principal Kisten Giglio, her staff, and even community members who have stepped forward to help in this transition.
"All of Mr. Truesdail's classes have been picked up by staff who have come forward to help and all of his extra curricular activities are covered by staff and even community members. It is truly impressive."
