NORWICH – In a press release on Monday, Hummel's Office Plus announced plans to close its downtown Norwich retail store, effective February 28.
Hummel's Office Plus has been in Norwich since 2013, when it acquired Hayes Office Products. It will hold a store closing sale beginning February 11 and lasting through the end of the month.
CEO of Hummel's Office Plus Justin Hummel stated the reason for the closure includes, "the continued expansion of our B2B business, led by dramatic growth through our E-commerce business."
The release states over 70 percent of Hummel's business is generated through its B2B E-commerce model, a stark increase compared to 15 years ago when Hummel's did 20 percent though E-commerce.
It continues to say that the company "...has seen more customers choose to buy online rather than visit a brick and mortar location for products."
In the release, Hummel's noted the closing only affects the retail store and that all other facets of the business will continue to operate normally in Norwich.
