Norwich names Diana Bowers as interim superintendent

NORWICH – At its meeting Wednesday night, the Norwich City School District Board of Education announced the district's interim superintendent for two years beginning this August will be Diana Bowers, former Haldane Central School District Superintendent.


Bowers, a West Eaton resident, will succeed Gerard O'Sullivan, who is retiring this August after 15 years as the NCSD Superintendent. Bowers' two-year appointment begins on August 14 at a pay rate of $750 per day.


In 2018 Bowers retired from her position of five years as the Superintendent of the Haldane Central School District in Cold Spring, New York. From 2006 to 2014, she served as the Hamilton Central School District Superintendent.

Since her career in education began in 1981, Bowers has served as a high school science teacher, as a principal, and as a superintendent in various school districts. She is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Inclusive Education at Cazenovia College.


At the NCSD Board of Education meeting Wednesday night, NCSD Board of Education President Howie Sullivan said Bowers brings to the district "...a wealth of experience and background."


Bowers spoke during the public comment portion of the board meeting and thanked attendees for offering her a warm welcome and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the NCSD interim superintendent.
