NORWICH – After surveying hundreds of potential jurors, officials have selected a jury and opening statements will begin today in the murder trail of Ernest Franklin.

Both Ernest Franklin II, 36, and Heather Franklin, 34, both of Guilford, are accused of committing second-degree murder, a class A felony.

Police allege the Franklins worked together to murder their disabled son, Jeffrey, and set fire to their home to cover it up, inspired by a movie plot.

Chenango County Court Officials said jury selection was completed around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with 12 jurors and three alternates chosen to serve throughout the trial.
