NORWICH – The 15th annual Norwich St. Baldrick's will take place at 6 p.m. this Saturday at American Legion Post 189, and event organizers say they are well on their way to breaking this year's goal of raising $30,000 for childhood cancer research.

Since the first event in Norwich in 2005, the local St. Baldrick's has raised $333,562.14 for The St. Baldrick's Foundation––a charity which funds more in childhood cancer research than any organization except the federal government.

Last year's Norwich St. Baldrick's was its most successful to date, with 34 shavees raising $33,570.

"Childhood cancer is so random," said Norwich St. Baldrick's organizer A. Wesley Jones. "It doesn't happen because of lifestyle, it doesn't happen because of occupational issues, it can happen to anybody. So absolutely we're trying to raise funds that will turn around and be given in research grants to places that hopefully will find cures."
