Greene Central School presents “Bye Bye Birdie” this weekend

GREENE – Greene Central School’s Footlights will present “Bye Bye Birdie” in the high/middle school auditorium with shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
“Bye Bye Birdie” is “a musical inspired by the phenomenon of Elvis Presley and his draft notice into the Army in 1957”. In the Greene Footlights’ production, rock and roll superstar Conrad Birdie (played by Trent DeHaan) is drafted into the army and, as a farewell, Conrad’s manager - and only client - Albert Peterson (Derrick Heisler), comes up with a plan to have Conrad sing “One Last Kiss” and kiss Kim MacAfee (Kelsey Wahlers), from Sweet Apple, Ohio, live on the Ed Sullivan Show. However, Kim’s father, Harry (Joshua Fowler) and boyfriend, Hugo Peabody (Ayden Doolittle) are staunchly against it.
Meanwhile, Albert has his own issues of his own with an overbearing mother, Mrs. Mae Peterson (Mallory Fowler), and his manager/girlfriend Rosie DeLeon (Mikaela Sepulveda-Kiefer).
Footlights’ presentation of “Bye Bye Birdie” is produced by Amanda Boel and directed by Boel and Nicole Cole. The orchestra is directed by Heather Kriesel. Besides the cast of over 40, Footlights is bolstered by a large group of community members, many of whom have been part of the group for decades.
Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7 p.m. Curtain rises for Sunday’s performance at 3. Tickets will be available at the door.
