B-G can’t hang on to early lead

GREENE – Rebounding from a non-league loss to Owego the night before, Greene’s starting pitcher Nick Shoemaker took to the mound to strike-out 10 Unadilla Valley batters as the Trojans went on to win 5-2 at home Tuesday night.

Greene scored all five of their runs between the second and fourth innings, tacking on two in both the third and fourth.

Getting the scoring started for the home team was Jacob Funnell when he drilled an RBI single to left field with two outs, scoring Trent Rapp from third. Rapp reached the base paths with a walk and advanced on a sacrifice fly ball by Hogan Ludolph and infield ground out by Dallas Roe.

In the bottom of the third, Greene’s Logan Kennedy hit a grounder back to the pitcher and was able to score teammate Owen Howell from third.

Later in the inning, the Trojans had the bases loaded when Roe was hit by a pitch. Shoemaker scored on the play to give Greene the 3-0 lead.

The fourth inning saw Rapp hit a blooper over the second baseman’s head with two outs. As runners were in motion, Howell and Shoemaker were both able to score as the ball dropped in there for a two-RBI single.
