NEW BERLIN – The Village of New Berlin Board of Trustees welcomed two new members on Tuesday night and thanked them for their interest in serving the community.

After the recent election two new board members have been elected to serve the Village of New Berlin, trustees Michelle Priola and Christopher Gatti. Village Mayor Terry Potter, recently promoted Deputy Mayor Michael Conroe, Trustee Dave Smith, and Clerk Treasurer Kelly Anderson returned for another term.

At Tuesday night's meeting Potter wished the two good luck and thanked them for stepping up and serving their community.

"I know this won't be easy, but thank you guys for stepping up," he said. "There was a time where no one was interested in filling at least one of those positions, but we're excited to have both of you on board."

Both Priola and Gatti are from the New Berlin area, and said they looked forward to making a difference.

Priola said she was originally from Whitsboro NY, but has lived in the New Berlin area for 22 years. She added that she has a bachelors degree in english and sociology, and a masters degree in gerontology program administration.

"I've worked with the Village of New Berlin Library for 16 years, and have been a director there for approximately three years," said Priola. "My work at the library is very separate from my work on the village board, and they have to remain separate."

She said she has been attending village board meetings and thinking about running for about a year.

"I've lived in the community for 22 years, and my kids have never known any other place at home," said Priola. "I felt a need to serve my community."

The other newly elected trustee, Gatti, said he has worked over 30 years in commercial printing, but always had other jobs on the side.

"When it comes to the most fun side jobs I've held, I ran a small company for vintage guitar repairs, I've worked for guitarists, and I've also been a land surveyor," said Gatti. "Whenever I could try something new and learn about it I would."

According to Gatti, he decided to run for local office after attending several months of meetings and hoping to be able to make a difference.

"I've been coming to the meetings for several months, and after awhile I decided that I'd like to run for a position and try my best to help," he said. "Sometimes it's easier to make a difference when you're actually sitting at the table, instead of making suggestions from the crowd."

Gatti said no one was running for the position he filled up until two days before the election, and at that point he decided to step in.

"If something is wrong, I want to try to make it right," he said. "If something is good, I want to make it better."
