Fire at Raymond, spurs response from several fire departments
GREENE – Fire departments responded to a commercial fire in Greene on Wednesday night at the Raymond Corporation.
No one was injured. “We made an initial attack and knocked the fire down quickly,” the Greene FD stated.
Greene Fire Chief Rick Woerter said a dust collector briefly caught fire at 8:15 p.m., triggering a fire alarm. The building was evacuated for a short time before officials secured the scene.
The fire alarm and a report of visible smoke from the plant prompted the wide alert.
Volunteer fire crews from Greene fire and EMS responded, with mutual aid also being provided by Oxford, Smithville and Coventry. The Chenango County Fire Coordinators Office was also on the scene. Crews were off scene by about 11 p.m.
