Chobani doubles Community Impact Fund
$200k will be awarded in Central New York this year
NORWICH – Chobani announced Thursday it will double the amount of funds donated in its Community Impact Fund in an effort to further promote economic opportunity and entrepreneurship in Central New York and the Magic Valley in Idaho.
In expanding its Community Impact Fund, Chobani will contribute $200,000 this year in Central New York. Grant applications from residents of Delaware, Chenango, Madison and Otsego counties will be accepted throguh June 2019, and will be awarded later this year.
“At Chobani, we do more than make yogurt,” said Chobani in a statement. “Each and every day, we try to make a difference. By increasing the size of the fund and allowing multi-year grants, we’re unlocking the potential for organizations to build bigger and bolder initiatives that can drive meaningful, lasting change for communities across Central New York.”
Last year, Oxford Academy and Central School District and Sidney Central School District were among the four grant recipients of the inaugural Community Impact Fund for Central New York, which awarded $100,000 in the region.
Oxford schools received the maximum awarded grant of $30,000 to pay the wages and payroll costs of 25 students participating in a 10-month work experience. Sidney schools received $21,000 to help incorporate a student-run food truck, offering fresh, locally harvested, healthy food options for school meals.
Other initiatives supported by the Community Impact Fund last year included, “an incubator for agriculture and food-related enterprises,” “a work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy program for high school students,” and, “a marketing initiative for direct market farmers to better brand their business and excite new customers.”
The Community Foundation of South Central New York will once again serve as Chobani’s implementing partner in awarding the grants.
